Wednesday@One

Psalm 133 begins, 'How good and how pleasant it is for God's people to live together in unity. In John 17 Jesus also prays for unity, ' I pray that they all may be one' and in Ephesians 4 Paul implores us , 'Spare no effort to make fast with bonds of peace the unity which the Spirit gives'.

It is the achievement of this unity which is one of the main aims of 'Wednesday at One', a service of about 30 minutes which started in 1988 and takes place every Wednesday at 1.00 pm. It is conducted by both clergy and church members from many Hinckley and District Churches as is the congregation.

It is truly ecumenical service containing music, readings, meditation and a short address and prayer and, following the example of Jesus,it provides an opportunity in the middle of the week for people to withdraw from the routine and busyness of daily life , in order to spend a short time in communion with God- to worship Him, to acknowledge the news of and to pray for the wold, to find refreshment, inspiration and strength to live in the world.

There is time too, for conversation which enables those present to share something of their interests, experience and beliefs and thus develop a feeling of togetherness, to experience the unity for which Christ prays, Paul implores and the Psalmist states is so good and pleasant.

A prayer produced for the formation of Churches Together seems appropriate for such a gathering.

Lord God, we thank you for calling us into the company of those who trust in Christ and seek to obey his will. may your Spirit guide and strengthen us in mission and service to your world, for we are strangers no longer, but pilgrims together on the way to your kingdom. Amen.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Church Building (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:45am. For your first visit, we recommend arriving 10-15 minutes early to find somewhere to sit before the service begins. When you arrive, you should be greeted by someone on our Welcome Team at the door.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Our Service

The main service begins at 10:45am with a warm welcome from one of our team members, however we encourage people to spend time before this in prayer, either silently or sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible whilst music plays. We have a number of different leaders who may introduce and then lead the service. News and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church will be shared . We have no set format for our services however it will be composed of prayers, worship (singing) bible reading and a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. Once a month we celebrate Holy Communion.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits when the service finishes. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings and pray with others. All refreshments are free.

What about my kids?

In parallel with the main service there is "Sprouts" for children which runs from 10.45am to 12 in the rear hall. There are also "Parade Services" where the Uniformed Organisations take part in the first part of the service and then join in with Sprouts activities for the remaining time.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but usually there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, testimonies, praying, music, craft, drama, fun games and free play. Please pick your children up as soon as the service finishes.

Getting Connected

House Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out House Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.

Prayer Meetings

Our regular prayer meetings are a great opportunity give thanks and talk with God together. There are opportunities to fellowship and chat before and after the meetings which are both online and in person and at various times of the week. Please see our Prayer Meetings page for further details.
